Aims of Faculty:
> Pathology Department Of SIMS has two components i.e. Academic and diagnostic Laboratory work.The department has four branches namely: Histopathology,Haematology,Microbiology and chemical Pathology.
> Teaching and practical training of 3rd and 4th year MBBS students through formal lecture, practical & museum classes, tutorials and self learning activities like problem based and other assignements keeping in view the curriculum prescribed by University of Health Sciences.Throughout the academic year the students are regularly assessed by administration of term tests and assignements.
> To provide routine as well as specialized diagnostic facilities related to different branches of pathology free of cost to patients admitted in Services Hospital Lahore.
> To acquaint undergraduate students with Clinical pathology.
> To conduct research in the field of pathology.
> To upgrade laboratory for accreditation programmes.
> To make it a centre for teaching and training of postgraduate students.
> To hold activities of continuing medical education (CME) in collaboration with sister organizations, Clinicians etc.
Role In Hospital / SIMS:
> Pathology Department of SIMS is providing specialized laboratory services to the patients admitted in different inpatient departments of Services Hospital in the fields of Haematology,Microbiology,Histopathology and Chemical Pathology.
> The department is involves in monitoring and management of Hospital infection.
Recent Research:
Research programmes during 2005 include:
> Diagnostic significance of Sudan Black B in evaluation of bone marrow infiltration in Lymphoma.
> AgNOR staining in Leukemia and its prognostic significance.
> Megaloblastic anemia: aetiology and Clinical presentation in patients admitted in Services Hospital Lahore.
> Frequency of ESBL among E.Coli and Klebsiella isolated from patients admitted in Services Hospital, Lahore.
> Pattern of bacteria responsible for neonates admitted in Neonatology Unit, Paediatric Department of Services Hospital, Lahore.
Other informations:
Faculty of Pathology Department is highly qualified and experienced.The faculty members have experience of teaching and training both undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical students.Collectively there more than 100 original research publications to the credit of all faculty members.
